The highly anticipated Shanghai hard fork on Ethereum has now been set for April 12. On March 16, Ethereum core developers approved the target deadline during the All Core Developers Execution Layer #157 call.
Five Ethereum Improvement Proposals are included in the Shanghai mainnet upgrade, including EIP-4985, which will enable staked Ether withdrawals on the Beacon Chain, completing Ethereum's transition from proof-of-work to proof-of-stake (PoS) consensus.
Developers on GitHub will now confirm the target date of April 12 at 10:27:35 pm UTC, epoch 620,9536. The fork was supposed to happen in March, but developers pushed it back to early April.
Validators will automatically receive rewards payments in withdrawal addresses at regular intervals. Stakeholders can also exit positions entirely, reclaiming their entire balance.
