The first cryptocurrency built on blockchain technology, Bitcoin, is a decentralized digital currency based on cryptography. Due to its decentralized feature, Bitcoin operates independently of a central authority, like a central bank or organization. This makes it different from fiat currencies, such as U.S. dollars or euros. Bitcoin can operate on a peer-to-peer network, which enables users to send funds to each other without the need for intermediaries.
Founders of Bitcoin
The founder of Bitcoin is an unknown creator who is known under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto. In October 2008, Nakamoto presented the idea of peer-to-peer digital currency. Nakamoto propounded the concept of a decentralized ledger of transactions packaged in batches known as “blocks.” They also emphasized the security of such transactions through cryptography - thus giving rise to the concept of “blockchain.”
