About Polygon (MATIC)
Previously known as Matic Network, Polygon is a platform curated to develop and create Ethereum-based applications. The Polygon protocol aims to accelerate cheaper Ethereum transactions using sidechain blockchains that run fast, like HOV lanes, along with the Ethereum main chain.
The primary component of Polygon is the Polygon Software Development Kit (SDK), which is a flexible network that supports the creation of various applications. Polygon transforms Ethereum into a multi-chain system, similar to other systems such as Cosmos, Polkaot, and Avalanche.
The native token of Polygon is MATIC. MATIC is an ERC-20 token used for paying transaction fees and participating in proof-of-stake consensus.
Founders of Polygon
Launched in 2017, Polygon was co-founded by Jaynti Kanani, Sandeep Nailwal, and Anurag Arjun. In 2019, the Plygon team launched its own network, and prior to this, they also contributed to the Ethereum ecosystem.
Use Cases of Polygon
Polygon can be used by developers to create optimistic rollup chains, standalone chains, ZK rollup chains, etc. Such flexibility makes the Polygon network suitable for various dApps, ranging from games to DeXs.
